Summer Skin Care
With Summer almost in full swing, it's the time for sun protection as summer activities begin. Lots of sunscreens took a hit this year, and many were banned in Hawaii due to their destruction on reefs. If they are so destructive to plant life, what is it doing to humans? That question frightens me. I don't make or use sunscreen, but I am happy to recommend some brands that are safe if you choose to use it!
Here are my tips for not burning but keeping skin healthy during the sunny months.
First off, the sun is not the enemy. I don't believe God created a terrible eco-system and the sun has its rightful place for keeping us warm and giving us vitamin D! Treating it with respect, however is key.
Research is showing that intake of certain vitamins through the skin, by vitamin form, and through your food is a great way to prevent sun damage. Vitamin A, C, and E, as well as antioxidants are powerful tools for sun protection!
I eat a diet high in healthy fats: avocados, butter, pumpkin seeds, and eggs. This helps my skin stay hydrated and healthy! Dark leafy greens are very beneficial as well. Berries, citrus fruits and other fresh foods are wonderful.
According to this fascinating and long study, you can also take Vitamin C, D3, Turmeric, and other supplements, and they can help as well. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3263051/
Wear protective clothing in the heat of the day if you burn easily. There is a lot of shops that carry UV protective clothing that is light weight!
Treat your skin well and keep it moisturized. During the winter, it's easier to remember when our face is dry to hydrate it, but it's just as important in the summer months. Your skin will be exposed to lots of UV rays and free radicals, so it's essential to protect and heal it from the exposure.
Each of my face creams have ingredients that are high in vitamins and antioxidants.
